Abstract:

In this work, the basic heat transfer principles in building constructions are collected. The aim of the work is not the presentation of new research results but only the transfer of knowledge to the Afghan education system. The work focuses on the very clearly visible gap in energy analysis and heat transfer standards in the design of building constructions in Afghanistan. Design of new curricula of the engineering education institutions in Afghanistan should take into account the necessity and importance of this problem.
Basic relations of heat conduction, convection and radiation are described. Heat transfer trough different building construction such as walls, windows and floor is explained. A number of experimental data and material properties needed for practical calculations and energy design of buildings were collected. Insulation materials, building insulation and heat transfer trough different types of windows are analyzed. The work contains also the method and data for the calculation of passive solar energy gain.
The heat transfer problems are arranged in the work chronologically for practical use in building energy design and heat transfer calculations. The work can be used as a source of information for teaching heat transfer in buildings.
